What is Org Design?

Every organization is made up of a web of structures, relationships, activities, processes, and reward mechanisms. These are often built up over time and shaped by ever changing priorities,  strategies, and leadership. 


More than just a new organizational chart, effective org design is the process of reimagining every characteristic of your organization into a coherent whole. An organization which is completely aligned with your strategy, and which sets up your workforce to execute effectively. 

The Impact of Org Design

For 100+ years researchers have explored the effects of well designed organizational structures. Research has continually shown positive relationships between effective Organizational functionality and employee agency, job satisfaction and engagement, as well as an overall increase in job performance at individual and group levels.

Our approach to Org Design is structured around our 5 characteristic model. We support clients to understand the current and target state of each. With those insights we design and deliver a transformed organization. Our five characteristics of Team Design are:

  • Relationships: what is the best authority structure for people to work effectively?
  • Processes: what processes and policies will accelerate execution? 
  • Rewards: are our reward mechanisms aligned around our strategy?
  • Capabilities: do we have the right workforce, both human and technical, to execute?
